Sainte-Chapelle

Description

Get ready to enter one of the most magical places in Paris. The Sainte-Chapelle, built in the 13th century by King Louis IX—the future Saint Louis—is not just a chapel: it is a monumental reliquary created to house some of Christianity's most sacred relics, including the Crown of Thorns. Its purpose was clear: to dazzle anyone who crossed its threshold, and it continues to do so eight centuries later.

At first glance, the Sainte-Chapelle is impressive...

But when you climb up to the upper chapel, it's hard not to be speechless: 15 giant stained-glass windows, covering more than 600 m², narrate the Bible as if it were an immense medieval comic book illuminated by the sun. When the light passes through the reds, blues, and golds of the glass, the entire space is transformed.

On this guided tour, we explore the building in its context: the Sainte-Chapelle is not just a chapel, it is the spiritual heart of what was once the palace island of the kings of France. We will discover unique architectural details of the Rayonnant Gothic style and understand the hidden meaning of each scene in the stained glass windows, which are not placed at random.
